How to make an offer on Wallapop: how much to offer, how to counter-offer and when to stop
A good offer does not come from a magic percentage. It comes from comparing the right item, understanding its condition, adding up the effective cost, deciding on your alternative and setting a limit before the haggling starts.
Barguvo can organise context, limits and messages. It does not send, accept, decline, cancel or complete transactions for you; the action takes place on the original platform.

What do you need to sort out right now?
Start from the decision point, not from a discount rule.
How to read the evidence in this guide
The label shows what backing a statement has. Barguvo separates official mechanics, user experiences, editorial judgement and tactics that are not yet sufficiently proven.
Rules published by Wallapop about the offers feature and the flow that follows.
Example: maximum technical reduction, possible responses, 24 hours and no reservation.Friction points and preferences described by users. They help spot problems, not serve as universal statistics.
Example: dislike of “final price” questions or of chains of counter-offers without context.A method for turning comparables, condition, cost and alternative into a defensible decision.
Example: buyer’s maximum and seller’s minimum defined before negotiating.Popular rules without enough backing to be treated as universal.
Example: “always start 20 % lower”. A hint, not a conclusion.UNDERSTANDING THE FLOW
An accepted offer is not the same as a completed purchase
By the end you will have: the offer, acceptance, purchase and subsequent transaction stages clearly separated.
The current feature is started from the chat. Wallapop technically limits the reduction you send to a maximum of 30 %, allows the seller to accept, decline or counter-offer and, if they accept, gives the buyer 24 hours to buy at the new price. During that period the item is not reserved.
30 % does not mean “recommended discount”
It is the limit of the feature. It does not prove that a 30 % reduction is reasonable for that product or that the seller should accept it.
Acceptance does not reserve the item
During the 24 hours another user can buy at the original price or keep making offers. That describes a mechanic; it does not justify inventing urgency to apply pressure.
Up to 10 offers a day
Wallapop states up to 10 offers a day and notes that several offers on the same product count as one towards that limit.
Accepting the offer cannot be reversed
The current help pages state that the seller cannot reverse that acceptance. Do not confuse this with claiming that every later transaction is irreversible.
A transaction may still be cancelled later
Wallapop documents the cancellation of a sale/shipment separately. That is why R38 separates “I accepted an offer” from “the transaction can no longer change”.
It does not appear on every listing
The feature is not available for certain products and categories, including PRO users, refurbished items, Inmobiliaria (property), Coches (cars) and Empleo (jobs).
BEFORE THE NUMBER
First decide what you are valuing; then negotiate
By the end you will have: the minimum variables so that an offer is not just “I want to pay less”.
1. Identity and variant
Model, capacity, size, version, year or configuration. A cheap comparable of another variant can be the wrong reference.
2. Real condition
Wear, defects, repairs, replaced parts and how it works. Do not discount the same problem twice.
3. What is included
Accessories, box, charger, documentation or extras only count if they are actually included and useful to you.
4. Comparables
Prioritise equivalent units. An active listing does not prove what price it will end up selling for.
5. Effective cost
Negotiated price + shipping + Protection + any known necessary repair or accessory. What is unknown remains uncertainty.
6. Alternative
What other purchase would you make if this negotiation ends? Without an alternative, it is easy to go higher because of sunk cost.
Before making an offer, try to be able to finish this sentence: “My figure differs from the listing because of X, Y and Z; above my limit I prefer alternative A”. If you cannot explain it, some context may still be missing.
When the final cost is decisive, do not try to memorise fees from this guide. Calculate the current total and use the guide on shipping costs on Wallapop to separate product, shipping and Protection.
IF YOU ARE BUYING
Your offer needs three reference points: ideal, maximum and alternative
By the end you will have: your own range that does not depend on guessing what percentage the seller will accept.
Your side · buyer
The maximum is set before you receive the counter-offer, not after investing ten messages.
your maximum ≥ the seller’s minimum
What you do not know
You do not need to guess these figures. Your job is to decide yours.
How to build a first offer
Hi. I have compared the same version in similar condition and, taking X into account, Y would work for me. Does that suit you?
Hi. Given the mark visible on X and what it would cost to fix Y, I could go up to Z. If that works for you, let’s carry on.
Before making you an offer, could you confirm X and whether it includes Y? That difference changes my valuation quite a lot.
Thanks. My maximum would be X given the condition and the total cost. If that does not work for you, I understand.
In recent conversations some users value the speed of the offer button and others perceive an isolated figure as abrupt. It is not a universal rule; it does justify that, when context matters, a short sentence can reduce friction.
Have you got the listing in front of you?
Sort out variant, condition, comparables and cost before setting your maximum.
IF YOU ARE SELLING
You do not have to accept, counter-offer or “leave room” out of obligation
By the end you will have: a listed price, a target, a defensible minimum and the real option of waiting.
Your side · seller
Your minimum can change if the evidence changes, not because someone insists harder.
figure + clear limit
Your alternative
A low offer does not oblige you to prove that the buyer “is wrong”. You can decline.
Should you list at a higher price to leave room?
There is no universal strategy. A price somewhat above your target can leave room for negotiation; an artificially high price can also reduce interest or make the comparison worse. In the same way, listing your fair price and marking it as non-negotiable can simplify conversations, but it does not stop some people from sending offers.
User discussions are split between “fair/non-negotiable price” and “price with room”. That split is precisely a reason not to turn either of them into a Barguvo formula.
Wallapop asks for respectful negotiations and discourages very low offers that cause frustration, but it does not publish a percentage that automatically makes an offer “fair”, “ridiculous” or “offensive”.
If the problem is that your listed price no longer fits the market, check the guide on how to sell on Wallapop before using negotiation to fix a badly positioned listing.
COUNTER-OFFER
Five possible responses: not everything is solved by going up or down
By the end you will have: a decision tree to avoid endless chains of counter-counter-offers.
The new figure is still within your range and no information has appeared that makes the deal worse.
There is still a possible zone of agreement and you can justify your new figure without exceeding your limit.
The figure is outside your range and you do not need more information to know it.
The difference depends on condition, contents, cost or terms that are not yet confirmed.
You have reached your maximum/minimum, the alternative is better or the deal is shifting towards pressure or risk.
A counter-offer should not be an automatic reflex. If the seller goes from 100 to 90, that does not oblige the buyer to go from 70 to 80. And if the buyer goes up, the seller does not have to “split the difference” out of courtesy. Every move must stay within your own valuation.
Recalculate only when a real variable changes or when a zone of agreement still exists. Moving the price out of tiredness adds no value; it only transfers margin.
CLEAR LIMITS
“Final price”, “non-negotiable price” and “today/cash in hand”
By the end you will have: short answers for three common friction points without manipulating the other party.
If you are buying: do not make the seller negotiate against themselves
Asking “how low will you go?” can save time, but it gives no value reference and hands the seller the task of lowering their price before knowing your figure. If you already have enough data, it is usually clearer to propose an amount and explain why. If you have no data, ask about the product, not about an abstract discount.
I have checked the condition and the comparables. Would X work for you?
Thanks. The price I am sticking with for now is X; below that I would rather wait.
I can go down to X. That would be my limit for now.
Thanks for your interest. In this case I am keeping the listed price.
A short negotiation does not have to be cold
The offers feature lets you exchange figures with very few messages, and that can be useful. When the condition, the variant or the reason for the reduction matter, a short sentence can avoid misunderstandings. There is no need to write a ten-line defence or justify every euro; it is, however, worth avoiding insults, reproaches or tactics designed to wear the other party down.
If you change your mind, say so as soon as possible. Reaching a figure and then discovering you are no longer interested does not make the other party responsible for your decision. Clarity reduces wasted time for both buyer and seller.
In May 2026 users were commenting on the friction of answering a “final price” question and then receiving an even lower offer. This is a qualitative experience, not a rate. It justifies clearer messages, not assuming bad faith.
“I will come today” or “I will pay cash” does not create an automatic discount
Speed can have value for a particular seller: less waiting, a more convenient handover or avoiding packaging. For another seller it may be worth nothing. That is why “today/cash in hand” is a condition of the deal, not a discount percentage. If it adds real value, it becomes part of the exchange; if not, it does not.
AUDITING THE TRICKS
Eight popular tactics that Barguvo does not turn into laws
By the end you will have: negotiation mechanics, experience and superstition separated.
| Claim | Evidence | Why it can fail | Barguvo judgement |
|---|---|---|---|
| “Never accept the first offer” | Unverified | The first offer may exceed your minimum or be better than waiting. | Evaluate the figure, not its position in the sequence. |
| “Always start 10/20 % lower” | Unverified | It ignores condition, category, starting price and alternatives. | Start from comparables and your limit. |
| “Split the difference down the middle” | Unverified | The midpoint may be above the maximum or below the minimum. | Only move within your range. |
| “Anchor with a very low figure” | Unverified | It can cut the conversation short without providing useful information. | If the figure is low, explain why. |
| “Always inflate the price so you can haggle” | Unverified | It can reduce interest and worsen the comparison with comparables. | Decide on margin according to context, not as an obligation. |
| “If I come today I am entitled to a discount” | Community signal | Speed is only worth what it is worth to that seller. | Treat it as a condition, not as a right to a discount. |
| “Several offers mean I have to rush” | Official | The platform allows competition during the time window, but that does not prove how many genuinely interested people there are. | Decide by your maximum, not by FOMO. |
| “You have to say others are interested” | Unverified | If it is made up, it turns a tactic into manipulation. | Only communicate real interest, factually. |
When is an offer “too low”?
Wallapop asks users to keep negotiations fair and warns that very low offers can cause frustration, but it does not define a percentage threshold that makes a figure acceptable or unacceptable. Barguvo should not invent one either. A 25 % reduction can be perfectly defensible if the starting price is well above comparables or if there is a costly defect; a 5 % reduction can make no sense if the price is already below equivalent alternatives and the seller has said they do not negotiate.
Evaluate the distance to the value, not the percentage on its own
Ask what explains the difference: is the listing out of line with the market? is there damage, missing accessories or a different variant? does the total cost change the comparison? does the offer use a truly equivalent comparable? If there is a material reason, a figure far from the listed price is not automatically absurd.
Declining is also a complete answer
If you are selling and the offer is well below your minimum, you do not need to convince the buyer that they are wrong. You can decline, state your limit once or close the conversation. Negotiation does not improve by turning a difference in valuation into a personal argument.
Wallapop’s recommendation is to keep things respectful and negotiations reasonable. It does not publish a “below X % is offensive”. R38 keeps that uncertainty instead of fabricating a boundary.
Bundles or several items: negotiate the whole, not a mechanical percentage per piece
When buyer and seller are talking about several items, the figure can change for real reasons: a single handover, less handling time, convenience for both parties or differences in value between the pieces. That does not mean that “buying three” automatically grants a fixed discount. If you propose a total, make clear which items it includes and which part of the saving comes from a real condition of the deal. If one piece has a defect or a very different value, avoid spreading a uniform reduction just because the bundle has several units.
With a bundle, first calculate the defensible value of the whole and then decide whether the logistical convenience justifies an adjustment. “It is several things” is not, on its own, a quantified reason.
Fixed rule: negotiating does not authorise fabricating facts
Barguvo will not recommend inventing buyers, demand, defects, costs, rival offers, urgency, personal stories or availability to push a figure. You can communicate real facts; not create a false scenario to alter the other person’s decision.
GETTING OUT IN TIME
When to stop even if you could still send another figure
By the end you will have: exit criteria that do not depend on pride or on “winning” the haggling.
You have reached your maximum or minimum
A new counter-offer would only break the limit you set earlier.
The alternative is already better
Another listing, waiting or buying new offers a better combination of price, condition, warranty or time.
The total cost is no longer worth it
The visible reduction looks good, but shipping, Protection, a repair or an accessory bring the total close to a better option.
Material information is still missing
The conversation moves the price without clarifying the variant, defect, contents or terms that change the valuation.
The conversation is no longer moving forward
Both parties repeat figures without the evidence changing. Stopping can be more rational than a fifth counter-counter-offer.
The deal is shifting towards pressure or risk
Links, external payments, unexpected urgency or new conditions are no longer a negotiation problem.
Also compare against “new” when the conditions are already similar
The aim of negotiating is not to get the biggest visible discount, but to end up with the best decision available. If the used item comes close to a new, refurbished or professional option, the comparison must include what changes beyond the price: applicable warranty, returns, condition, battery or consumables, accessories, time and certainty about the variant. There is no rule of “if the used one costs X % less, it is worth it”; it depends on the product and on what you value.
This comparison also avoids a frequent bias: after getting a reduction, the negotiated figure feels like a victory and can hide the fact that the alternative is still better. The discount you obtained is not a saving if you end up paying a higher effective cost or accepting more uncertainty than you wanted.
If the nature of the deal changes, move on to the guide on scams and risk signals or to how to avoid scams. Do not try to “offset” a risk with a bigger reduction.
AFTER THE AGREEMENT
Accepting a figure ends the negotiation, not all the checks
By the end you will have: a mini flow so you do not buy or sell out of inertia after reaching the price.
After an acceptance, the buyer has 24 hours to buy at the new price and the product is not reserved. Wallapop documents the cancellation of a later transaction separately; they are different stages.
If new information appears before completing —another model, a defect, a missing accessory, a different cost— go back to your valuation. Having negotiated for twenty minutes does not improve a purchase that no longer makes sense.
For the current total use shipping costs. If your doubt is now whether the listing is consistent or genuine, change intent and check how to spot a fake listing.
PRACTICAL CASES
Eight situations where the right figure depends on context
By the end you will have: examples of how the decision changes without resorting to a 10, 20 or 30 % rule.
Cheaper comparable, but worse condition
You find the same camera cheaper, but it has a higher shutter count and does not include a spare battery. Copying its price as your offer ignores material differences.
Decision: adjust only for differences you can justify; do not automatically use the cheapest listing.
The new figure exceeds your maximum
Your maximum was 420 and the seller comes down to 450. “It is only 30 more” is exactly the phrase that turns the limit into decoration.
Decision: decline or wait; only recalculate if new information has appeared that increases the value.
Non-negotiable price
You have set a price that already matches your comparables and below it you prefer to wait. The existence of the offer button creates no obligation to haggle.
Decision: state your limit once and avoid arguing about why the other figure “is absurd”.
You have genuine interest from several people
As a seller you can have simultaneous conversations. That does not authorise you to invent a fictitious bidding war.
Decision: if you mention demand, do it factually and without fabricating rival figures.
The reduction brings the used item close to the new price
You negotiate a 15 € discount, but shipping, Protection and a necessary charger leave the total very close to a new unit with a different warranty.
Decision: compare effective cost and conditions, not the feeling of “having got a discount”.
You do not know if it includes an important part
Trying to offset that doubt by offering 25 € less does not tell you how much the missing part is really worth, or even whether it is missing.
Decision: ask first; negotiate once you know the answer.
Fast collection does have value for the seller
The seller is moving tomorrow and a collection today removes a real logistical problem. That convenience can come into the negotiation.
Decision: use it as contextual value, not as a universal percentage.
“I have three buyers, decide now” when it is false
The phrase can create pressure, but if those buyers do not exist the negotiation rests on invented information.
Decision: Barguvo does not recommend false scarcity or fabricated urgency.
The used item ends up only slightly cheaper
After negotiating, the difference compared with a new alternative is small, but the new one offers conditions you value more. The used item’s discount percentage stops being the central question.
Decision: compare usefulness and effective cost; do not buy just to “make the most” of a negotiation you have already invested in.
You want three items from the same seller
You propose a combined figure because it simplifies things into a single handover. You do not apply an automatic 15 % to each piece; you separate their value from the real logistical saving.
Decision: negotiate the total for the whole set with clearly defined contents and without pretending that every bundle deserves a discount.
FAQ
How much can I reduce the price in an offer on Wallapop?
The current feature technically limits the reduction you send to 30 % of the listed price. That 30 % is not an economic recommendation or a “correct discount”.
How much below the price should I offer?
There is no universal percentage. Use variant, condition, contents, comparables, total cost and your alternative to set a figure and a maximum.
Does an accepted offer reserve the product?
No. The current help pages state 24 hours to buy at the new price and clarify that the item is not reserved during that period.
Is accepting an offer the same as completing the purchase?
No. Acceptance enables the new price and opens the purchase window. The purchase and the subsequent transaction are different stages.
Can the seller withdraw their acceptance of an offer?
Wallapop states that the seller cannot reverse the acceptance of the offer. A later cancellation of a transaction is a different flow.
What do I reply to “what is your final price”?
If you are selling, you can keep the price, give a minimum or say you do not negotiate. If you are buying, it is usually more useful to propose a reasoned figure than to ask the seller to lower their price without a reference.
Should I accept the first offer?
There is no general rule. If it exceeds your minimum and closing is worth it to you, it can be a good offer. Rejecting it just because it is the first adds no information.
Is it a good idea to split the difference in a counter-offer?
Only if that point is still within the buyer’s maximum and the seller’s minimum. The mathematical midpoint is not automatically a reasonable price.
Is it a good idea to list higher to leave room?
It depends on the context. It can leave room for negotiation, but an artificially high price can also reduce interest. Barguvo does not treat it as a universal rule.
What do I do if important information is missing before making an offer?
Ask first. An invented discount does not replace knowing whether the item is the right variant, what it includes or what condition it is in.
Does “I will come today” or “I will pay cash” justify a reduction?
Only if that convenience has real value for the seller. There is no automatic percentage linked to speed or to the way the item is handed over.
What happens if the total cost gets close to the new price?
Reassess the complete alternative: price, condition, warranty, shipping, Protection and necessary costs. Having got a reduction does not oblige you to complete a purchase that is no longer worth it.
Does Barguvo send or accept the offer for me?
No. Barguvo can help you organise data, arguments and limits, but the action takes place on the original platform.
Does your figure still make sense after all that?
Do one last review before continuing on the original platform.
