Photos for selling on Wallapop: how to take good photos
A good second-hand photo must identify the real unit and let people assess its condition, not make it look new. Start with a clear main photo and continue with angles, defects, labels, measurements and accessories that reduce uncertainty without exaggerating or hiding anything.
This guide focuses on photography and visual evidence. For price, title, description and the full listing, go to the guide to selling on Wallapop. A photo does not certify authenticity either: improve the photo without misrepresenting the product.

How to read the evidence in this guide
The labels separate verified rules, user experience, editorial decisions and unverified claims. When an image affects a conclusion, Barguvo also distinguishes Declared, Observable, Supplied, Confirmed and Unknown; the full framework is in how we analyse evidence.

A photo should resolve a doubt, not decorate the listing
When you finish you will have: a list of questions your images must answer before listing.
In second-hand selling, photography does two jobs. The first is recognition: letting someone understand at a glance what object it is and which variant they are looking at. The second is visual evidence: showing the unit, its condition and details that a description does not convey well. An image can be useful without turning a claim into a certainty.
Wallapop, in its help updated on 18 February 2026, recommends your own photos, clear and sharp, from different angles and showing any damage where it exists.
Before opening the camera, think: which unit is it?, what condition is it in?, which defect matters?, what is included? and what detail could change the decision? If a photograph answers nothing new, it may be taking up a slot that another shot would use better.
Identity
Whole object, brand, model, variant, colour, size, capacity or reference where relevant.
Condition
Surfaces, corners, screen, sole, fabric, seams/joints or areas of wear on the real unit.
Defects
Scratches, stains, dents, breaks, discolouration, missing parts or visible repairs, without downplaying them.
Included
Charger, box, covers, remote, accessories or parts that are genuinely part of the sale.
How to take a clear photo before thinking about filters
Clean the lens, rest the phone on something if your hand shakes and avoid aggressive digital zoom. The detail should be zoomable without turning into a blurry mass.
Look for even light, preferably indirect natural light or a diffuse source. Move the product or the light before turning up contrast and saturation.
Focus on the material detail and check that whites and blacks keep their texture. An area blown out by glare can hide a scratch.
Avoid strong colour casts and extreme white balance. If the colour changes with the light, add a neutral shot and describe it.
Use a simple background with enough contrast and a perspective that does not distort proportions. It does not have to be white.
If size matters, show a legible measurement. With screens, metal or glass, change the angle to control reflections without hiding damage.

A useful photo reduces one doubt without creating another. If you have to choose between a spectacular image and a faithful one, prioritise the faithful one and only improve its presentation afterwards.
RECOMMENDED SEQUENCE
From cover photo to proof: order the photos like a story
When you finish you will have: a base order adaptable to almost any product.
The main photo must identify the item without forcing people to guess. After that, it is best to move from the general view towards the evidence. There is no universal ideal number of photos: it depends on the product, its condition and the slots available.
The general help article «Subir producto» (Upload a product), updated on 13 June 2025 and revalidated on 24 August 2026, states up to 10 photographs when creating a listing.
Wallapop publishes a PRO help article, updated on 5 February 2026, that allows up to 50 photos per item. Always check what your account/interface shows.
Main photo
The whole product, natural orientation, an undistracting background and a representative condition.
Angles
Front, side, back or inside depending on what someone would need to inspect.
Condition
Surfaces and areas of regular use, with light that shows texture and wear.
Proof
Label, reference, model, size, logo or technical detail when it adds context.
Included
Everything that is handed over, together, and important accessories separately if needed.
Relevant defects should not become a surprise hidden in the last image. Combine context and detail: an isolated macro shot can exaggerate size; a distant shot can hide it.
Wallapop also states that using the same photo in several listings is not allowed. This rule applies here to Wallapop; do not automatically extrapolate it to other marketplaces.
If you are asked for more photos
Identify the doubt
Ask which detail they need to see: defect, label, angle, measurement or accessory.
Add the useful shot
When the listing can be edited, add the photo to the listing itself so that it is also visible to other interested buyers.
Stay in the channel
If you are pressured to move to WhatsApp, email or another platform just to receive photos, keep the conversation on Wallapop and minimise contact details.
Wallapop’s safety help says explicitly that, if someone wants to leave the chat because they are asking for more photos, you can add the additional photos to the listing. For the check before continuing a conversation or payment, see how to avoid scams; general risk patterns are in scams on Wallapop.
For high-end items, Wallapop recommends a receipt or invoice, serial number, label, logo and other proof. These are families of evidence, not an automatic certificate. If you want to analyse whether a specific listing looks consistent or fake, switch intent to fake listing.
NOT ALL OBJECTS ARE PROVEN THE SAME WAY
What to photograph depending on the product category
When you finish you will have: a shot plan specific to the kind of item you are selling.
The base sequence changes with the material. Photos for clothing need texture, size and wear; photos for electronics need model, ports, casing and observable functions. The aim is not to fill slots: it is to cover the doubts specific to each category.
Electronics
Front and back, screen on when safe, ports, exact model, storage/capacity visible where applicable, damage to the casing, charger and accessories. If there is a battery or a function whose status can be reliably checked, show the corresponding screen without claiming more than you actually verified.
Clothing and footwear
The whole garment, the back, the size label, material/composition if it helps, soles or heels, fastenings and seams. Photograph stains, pilling, scuffs or colour changes in neutral light. A measurement with a tape measure can resolve fit doubts better than an adjective.
Home and furniture
Full view, sides, corners, surface, legs, mechanisms, inside of drawers/doors and any dents. Add a photograph of the tape measure when a dimension could decide whether it fits in the buyer’s space.
Collectibles and luxury
Condition of the object and the packaging, references, labels, stamps, numbering, logos, fastenings and details that the manufacturer or specialist community use to identify the edition. Never promise authenticity just because the photo “looks right”.
Bicycles and sport
Full view of both sides, drivetrain, brakes, wheels, frame, components, impact areas and size/geometry. For safety or high-risk equipment, a photo does not replace a competent inspection.
Toys and bundles
The complete set, separate pieces, visible missing parts, box and instructions if included. For bundles, an overall photo should make it possible to count the components, and other shots can show the condition of the most important ones.
With reflective items —screens, watches, polished metal— change the angle of the light before turning up the contrast. With dark or light clothing, avoid backgrounds of the same tone that wash out the outline. For small objects, move physically closer or use a reliable macro mode instead of aggressive digital zoom that destroys detail.
In recent user conversations, a recurring complaint is finding generic or perfect photos that show the model but not the condition of the real unit. The implicit request is simple: “I already know what the new product looks like; I want to see the one you have”.
The cover photo: attractive without becoming misleading advertising
Use the angle that best identifies the product, but do not deliberately hide the damaged side. You can tidy the table, remove unrelated objects and choose a clean background. What is best avoided is setting up a scene that makes people believe decorative items or accessories that are not part of the sale are included. If they appear for context, make that clear visually or in the description.
If you are selling a very large item, a useful combination is: full view, scale or measurements, corners, surfaces, mechanisms and defects. If it is tiny, show a size reference where necessary, but avoid objects that could be mistaken for included components.
EDITING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Improve the photo without misrepresenting the product
When you finish you will have: a clear line between presentation editing and altering the condition.
Editing is not the problem in itself. Cropping empty space, correcting a clearly wrong exposure, straightening the image or softening a distracting background can help the photo read better. The limit appears when editing changes information a person would use to decide: real colour, geometry, texture, wear, relevant dirt, cracks, scratches, labels, parts or accessories.
Keep the original shot
Keep the original photograph when the detail may affect condition, identity, colour, measurements or authenticity.
Improve presentation
Crop, straighten or correct exposure moderately. Do not erase wear, do not invent parts and do not change geometry.
Compare side by side
If the edited version changes a material piece of evidence, do not use it to prove that detail: provide the original or a new real shot.
Presentation and evidence are not exactly the same thing. A version with a softened background can serve as the main photo if it remains faithful; for a scratch, a label or a serial, also keep an unaltered real shot when editing could affect the check.
It can improve
- cropping and straightening;
- moderate exposure and white balance;
- reducing background distractions without touching the item;
- perspective correction that does not change proportions;
- anonymising personal data that is not needed to assess the product.
It must not modify
- scratches, dents, stains or wear;
- colour, texture or material;
- logos, labels, numbers or references;
- shape, size or geometry;
- components, accessories or missing parts.
A Wallapop thread published on 18 August 2026 attracted criticism of images apparently generated or heavily modified with AI. Several replies expressed a specific concern: that the product received has scratches or dirt that the images did not show. It is a trust signal, not a universal measurement of conversion.
If an edit forces the buyer to ask “does the real product look like this?”, you have crossed the line. Compare the original and the result on the material details. If something changes that would affect price, identity, authenticity or condition, discard that version as evidence.
There is not enough basis to claim that “AI photos sell better” or that “a generated background ranks higher”. Even though an aesthetic image may grab attention, that does not prove a ranking effect or justify altering reality. A clue, not a conclusion.
It is also worth reviewing text generated from photographs. Wallapop’s upload interface may fill in the description and asks you to review and edit it before continuing. An AI can confuse models or infer characteristics that the photograph does not prove. The image and the description must tell the same story.
EVIDENCE WITHOUT EXPOSING YOURSELF
Defects, labels, serials, invoices and privacy
When you finish you will have: enough evidence without publishing unnecessary personal data.
Showing a relevant defect with context and detail reduces uncertainty and better represents the condition. There is no need to present it as a “proof of trust”: it is enough for the image to let people assess where it is, its approximate size and whether it affects an important area.

What a photo can provide and where it stops
| Claim | Useful photo / provenance | What it provides | What it does NOT establish | What could change the doubt |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| “It is this model/variant” | Legible label or reference · Observable/Supplied | Makes a specific identifier of the photographed unit visible. | It does not certify ownership, current possession or full authenticity. | Checking the identifier with the manufacturer or a specialist source when it is material. |
| “It has this defect” | Context + detail · Observable | Shows the location and visible appearance of the damage. | It does not prove the cause, age or internal effects that are not visible. | More angles, a functional video or an inspection when the damage could affect the structure. |
| “It works” | Screen/indicator switched on · Observable + statement | It can show that a specific function was active at that moment. | It does not prove full functionality, battery, sustained performance or the absence of intermittent faults. | A specific test of the relevant function or a diagnosis when the value justifies it. |
| “It is authentic” | Receipt, serial, labels, logos · Supplied/Observable | Provides elements that can be cross-checked against each other. | No single element automatically makes the unit authentic. | The manufacturer, an official service or a specialist authenticator if the risk/value requires it. |
| “It includes these accessories” | A photo of the unit and the included items together · Observable | Documents which objects appear together and supports the description. | It does not on its own guarantee that all of them will be handed over later. | Consistency between listing, chat and delivery; keep context before shipping. |
| “A specific photo is missing” | Unknown | Indicates that this visual evidence is missing. | UNKNOWN does not equal fraud. Its absence does not automatically make the listing suspicious. | Ask for the specific shot that would resolve the doubt. If it arrives but does not clarify, the result may be INCONCLUSIVE. |
High-end: evidence by families, not by accumulation
For high-end products, Wallapop recommends a receipt/invoice, serial number, label, close-up logo and other proof. Use them to check specific claims and consistency between elements, not as an automatic “certificate”.
If the value or risk requires an audit of the specific listing/product, the in-depth work belongs to how to spot a fake listing, not to this photography guide.
Privacy: publish only what adds value
Can be public
Model, size, material, defect, measurement or part of a reference when it is necessary and does not expose personal data.
Better kept back
Full serial/IMEI, full invoice or other identifiers when a private or partial check gives the same result with less exposure.
Adds nothing to the purchase
Home address, phone number, email, number plates when not needed, third parties’ faces, notifications, old shipping labels, tax details or identifiable home backgrounds.
To anonymise, crop or cover only the personal information that is not material to assessing the item. Do not use “privacy” as an excuse to erase a defect, a relevant reference or a part of the product.
EXIF/GPS: in this review there is no sufficient official source to state that Wallapop always removes geolocation metadata from images. Treat it as UNKNOWN: avoid relying on supposed automatic cleaning by the platform.
Wallapop prohibits stock or supplier images and considers inaccurate images that do not correctly show the product to be inconsistent. An official manufacturer photo can serve as a private reference for you, but it does not replace evidence of the real unit you are selling.
AFTER LISTING
Keep evidence before shipping and update the photos if the condition changes
When you finish you will have: a visual routine for listing, delivery and possible incidents.
The listing photographs describe a moment in time. If the product takes a knock, an accessory changes or a new defect appears before it sells, update the images and the description while the listing can still be edited. What matters is that the listing details and the photos keep describing the same unit in the same condition.
Two evidence tracks that must not be confused
1 · The seller’s private context
Barguvo recommends keeping, in proportion, views of the condition, relevant identifiers, accessories and packaging before shipping. It is your own context; it does not guarantee the outcome of a dispute.
2 · Official evidence for an incident
The procedure depends on who is making the claim and the current flow. For damage, Wallapop’s help tells the buyer which photos/videos to provide when opening the dispute.
The help article «El producto ha llegado dañado» (The product arrived damaged), updated on 28 May 2026 and revalidated on 24 August, gives 48 hours from confirmed delivery to report damage and asks for images/video of the damage, the outer and inner packaging and the label. «Cómo empaquetar bien un artículo» (How to pack an item properly), updated on 12 June 2026, stresses that proper packaging is the seller’s responsibility.
Do not tamper with files, do not fabricate timestamps and do not present a photo as proof of something it does not show. A view of the parcel before it leaves may keep context, but on its own it does not prove what happened in transit, nor does it replace the official claims flow.
Compare the listing details and photos: model, condition, defects, accessories and colour must tell the same story.
Add the shot that resolves the doubt to the listing when possible and keep the conversation in the official channel.
Keep private, proportionate evidence of the condition and included items. Do not publish sensitive data just “in case”.
Protect the item according to its fragility and document the process when the value/risk justifies it.
Follow the platform’s current flow and provide observable facts; separate what you see from what you infer.
Barguvo can turn the product and its condition into a list of pending shots.
Final checklist before listing
- The main photo identifies the real unit and does not look like a catalogue image.
- Light, focus and colour let people read the condition without hiding texture through reflections or exposure.
- There is more than one angle when a single view is not enough.
- Relevant damage is shown and matches the description.
- Labels, references or measurements that change the decision are legible.
- The accessories in the images match what is actually handed over.
- You have not reused the same photo in several Wallapop listings.
- Editing has not changed colour, geometry, defects, materials or parts.
- You keep the original when the edited image also serves as material evidence.
- No unnecessary personal data appears; EXIF/GPS is not assumed to be removed automatically.
- A missing photo is treated as UNKNOWN until the useful evidence is requested, not as automatic fraud.
- If the product is high-end, the families of evidence are consistent and you know what they do not certify.
Order the main photo, condition, defects, proof and included items before opening the listing to buyers.

How many photos should I upload to Wallapop?
There is no universal ideal number. The general upload help revalidated on 24 August 2026 states up to 10 photos; Wallapop also publishes that certain PRO subscriptions allow up to 50 per item. Use as many as you need to cover identity, angles, condition, defects and included items, and check the limit your account shows.
How do I take good photos for Wallapop with a phone?
Clean the lens, use even light, focus on the important detail, avoid reflections that cover information, keep colour and proportions true and choose a simple background. If a measurement or texture changes the decision, add a specific shot to show it.
Is a white background better?
It can visually separate the product, but it is not mandatory and there is no basis for claiming it improves ranking. A simple background, enough contrast and true light are more important.
Can I remove the background with AI?
Yes, if the cut-out keeps the outline, relevant shadows, colour, geometry, defects and accessories exactly. Keep the original when the image will also be used as material evidence; if the tool invents or removes detail, do not use that version to show condition.
Should I show every scratch?
You should show the relevant defects to represent the real condition. For small marks, combine a context view and a close-up to avoid both hiding and exaggerating them.
Can I use the same photo in several listings?
Not on Wallapop: its current selling guide states that using the same photo in several listings is not allowed. This answer is limited to Wallapop and is not automatically extrapolated to other platforms.
What should I do if I am asked for more photos via WhatsApp or email?
Wallapop recommends staying in its chat. If the person asks to leave just to receive more photos, you can add the additional photos to the listing. Share only the data needed and use the prevention guide if there is pressure to leave the official channel.
Should I show the full serial number?
Not necessarily. It can provide evidence, but a photo of a serial does not on its own certify authenticity or ownership. Publish only what is necessary and keep a full check for when the context justifies it.
Should I photograph the parcel before shipping it?
Barguvo recommends it as private context proportionate to the value and fragility, not as a guarantee in a dispute. In a damage claim, Wallapop tells the buyer to provide photos or video of the damage, the outer and inner packaging and the label, following its official flow.
