What Orientaprecios is and what kind of evidence it provides
The official help defines it as a guide to sold lots, not as a catalogue of asking prices.
Todocoleccion describes Orientaprecios as a guide to sold lots. Its help centre states that it brings together sales transactions completed since the year 2000 and that it is updated with new data on sold items. That makes it a particularly valuable source for studying historical closing prices.
The page visible on 25/08/2026 shows 50.181.913 lots in the Orientaprecios catalogue. That counter is dynamic and should not be turned into an evergreen figure. What is stable is the nature of the source: sold results and a broad history according to the official description.
In the public interface observed, the title, category and sale date appear, while the individual price requires a user account. The guide should not promise that all the information is available without logging in, nor rebuild a copy of the catalogue.
SOLD, ASKING, ESTIMATE and APPRAISAL are not synonyms
The label on a data point matters as much as the number.
ASKING is the price someone is asking in an active listing. SOLD is an observation of a closed sale. ESTIMATE can be an estimate from a platform or an analyst. BARGUVO_ESTIMATE is an explainable inference drawn from evidence. APPRAISAL is a professional valuation/expert appraisal where applicable.
Orientaprecios mainly provides SOLD evidence within its scope. Do not turn a sold price into a certificate of authenticity or into a valuation of the next example. The same reference can vary by condition, edition, included parts, provenance and timing.
When a guide mixes several sources, keep the price type. An average combining five active listings and five closed sales without labelling them would be statistically easy to calculate and editorially misleading.
Asking price.
Observed closed sale.
An estimate from a source.
Explainable estimate.
Professional valuation.
Identity first, price second
False comparables usually come from searching with a name that is too generic.
Before reading amounts, define the attributes that make the item comparable: manufacturer/author, model or reference, edition, year, material, size, variant, quantity and included items. For coins add mint/denomination; for books, edition/publisher; for toys, manufacturer and reference; for art, technique and dimensions.
A very similar title can hide a different variant. “Playmobil pirate ship” groups together different generations, references, box condition and degrees of completeness. The initial search can be broad, but the set used for valuation must be narrowed down.
If you cannot confirm the exact identity of your piece, do not force the matching. You can build a provisional range with weak comparables and low confidence, explaining which piece of information is missing to improve it.
The decision is explained; Barguvo does not carry out actions within todocoleccion.
Condition and completeness: two identical items can have different markets
The sold item that looks most similar may not be the best economic comparable.
Classify defects, restorations, wear, missing parts, box, documentation and accessories. An incomplete unit can sell for a fraction of a complete one; a restoration can make an item more attractive to some buyers and reduce its collector value for others.
Avoid overly precise scales if the evidence does not allow grading. “Good condition” can hide different interpretations. It is more useful to record facts: 2 cm crack, repaired spine, missing box, untested mechanism, hinged stamp or visible wear.
When the comparable does not share the same condition, apply a qualitative adjustment or reduce its weight. Do not automatically invent a universal “−20% per defect”. Adjustments depend on category and market.
Recency and sample size
More data does not always mean better data; little data does not automatically mean valuable rarity.
Separate recent sales from older history. An active market can change because of fashion, reissues, availability or the economy. A very stable category can tolerate longer windows. The useful period must be justified, not fixed at twelve months for everything.
Count comparables of high, medium and low similarity. Five almost identical sales can contribute more than fifty vague results. If only one relevant sale exists, the uncertainty range must be widened.
Few appearances can indicate rarity, poor indexing or reduced demand. The absence of sales does not prove high value. The correct result may be “insufficient evidence” even if the item seems exceptional.
Median, range and outliers
A single figure hides the spread the user needs to see.
For a clean set of comparables, show the median, the central range and the number of observations. The median usually withstands an isolated extreme better than the arithmetic mean, but it does not fix a badly selected set either.
Investigate outliers before removing them. A very high sale may correspond to exceptional condition, provenance, a rare variant or a lot with extras; a very low one may be incomplete or poorly described. If the difference has an explanation, the outlier may belong to another segment rather than being “noise”.
Label any invented example. The following table is synthetic and only serves to show the method; it does not contain real prices taken from Orientaprecios.
| Comparable | Condition/edition | Sold | Quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Same edition, complete | 48 € | High |
| B | Same edition, wear | 42 € | High |
| C | Later edition | 31 € | Medium |
| D | Same edition + box | 63 € | Medium |
| E | Incomplete lot | 19 € | Low |
| F | Rare variant | 120 € | Low / review |
An explainable comparability score
The score is there to rank evidence, not to hide an opaque model.
A score can weight exact identity, edition, condition, quantity, accessories and recency. Each component must be visible. If the result is 82/100, the user needs to know whether the 18 points lost are due to different condition, an old date or an uncertain variant.
Do not use the title as the only signal. Sellers describe the same item in different ways and may also use imprecise titles. Structured attributes and relevant visual evidence usually improve matching.
The final confidence must consider both quality and quantity. Three comparables at 95/100 can justify medium confidence; twenty comparables at 90/100 can justify more stability; fifty at 30/100 should not produce false certainty.
From comparables to a Barguvo estimate
The result must explain evidence, range and uncertainty.
Barguvo can calculate an observed market band and then propose quick, balanced or ambitious sale scenarios. Each scenario must be anchored in comparables and not in a magic percentage. For an item with a large spread, the band must be wider.
If the user provides data from another source —for example closed eBay sales or a Catawiki estimate— keep it with its type and origin. Combining them can improve context as long as sold is not silently mixed with asking or estimate.
The output must never be called a professional valuation if it is not one. “Barguvo estimate based on 8 high-similarity comparable sales” is defensible; “certified value: 52 €” would not be.
A sold price does not prove authenticity
The market may have paid for an attribution that later turns out to be debatable.
Orientaprecios records a sold transaction according to the platform, not a universal physical examination of the item. A similar result can help with valuation if the identity is already reasonably established, but it should not be used as proof that your piece is authentic.
For sensitive categories, separate the question “how much did comparables sell for?” from “what evidence supports the authenticity of this example?”. If the second remains open, the estimate must reflect that uncertainty or be made conditional.
Likewise, a high sale does not make a certificate, signature or provenance valid by association. Authenticity and valuation interact, but they are distinct editorial contracts.
A practical six-step workflow
Search, filter, compare, explain and only then decide the price.
1) Identify the piece. 2) Search broadly and collect candidates. 3) Filter by variant/condition/quantity. 4) Separate recent and historical sales. 5) Calculate range/median and review the extremes. 6) State an estimate with a confidence level and reasons.
If you are going to sell afterwards, take the result to SELL and FEES to decide format, asking price and net amount. If you are going to bid, take the range to AUCTIONS and turn your total budget into a rational maximum.
This reference was reviewed on 25/08/2026. The lot counter is a snapshot, access to prices may depend on being logged in and any change to the interface must be revalidated before production.
It is also useful to keep the search context. The same query can change a lot when you add or remove a reference, year or manufacturer. Recording which filters produced the final set makes it possible to reproduce the valuation and to detect why two analyses reach different results. Barguvo should be able to show something like “8 high-similarity comparables after excluding 14 different variants”, instead of presenting only the final range. That traceability helps to correct errors: if it later turns out that the piece belongs to another edition, it is enough to rebuild the comparable set, rather than manually reinterpreting every figure in the previous result.

FAQ
Does Orientaprecios show listings or sales?
Todocoleccion defines it as a guide to sold lots and says it brings together transactions since 2000.
Is the sold price the exact value of my item?
No. It is evidence of a transaction that must be compared by identity, condition, edition, date and quantity.
Why use the median and not just the mean?
The median reduces the influence of extremes, although no statistic makes up for badly selected comparables.
Do few sales mean my piece is worth a lot?
Not necessarily. They can also mean low liquidity, poor classification or insufficient evidence.
Does a sold comparable prove authenticity?
No. Valuation and authenticity are separate questions.
Does Barguvo carry out a professional valuation?
No. It can produce an explainable, evidence-based estimate, clearly labelled as such.
