How to avoid scams on todocoleccion: warning signs, evidence, Pago tc and checks before paying

Safety guide for todocoleccion: reviewing the lot, seller, provenance, messages, Pago tc and evidence without confusing warning signs with proof of fraud.

A warning sign is not a verdict. Gather evidence specific to the lot, separate reputation from authenticity and keep important agreements within the platform’s flow.

A

Safety based on evidence, not labels

The aim is to reduce uncertainty before paying, not to “detect scammers” with a magic score.

Start by separating four questions: what item is being offered? Who is selling it and in what capacity? What payment/shipping flow has been agreed? What evidence exists for each relevant claim? A single signal rarely answers all four.

Barguvo should classify evidence as official, observable, provided, declared or unverified as appropriate. A coherent story may still be merely declared; a photograph may show a mark without proving authenticity; a rating may describe past experience without proving the condition of the current lot.

Avoid accusatory language when the evidence does not allow it. “Price well below comparables”, “photographs of the back are missing” or “the payment link does not match the agreed flow” are actionable observations. “It is a scam” requires a much higher level of evidence.

B

Review the listing as if you had to verify it later

Identity, condition and contents should be reproducible from the listing.

Check that the title, description and photos all refer to the same item. Look for discrepancies in edition, quantity, accessories, measurements, material or condition. In collecting, a word such as “original”, “first edition”, “complete” or “uncirculated” can radically change expectations and needs adequate support.

Ask for images of the areas that actually resolve a doubt: signature, numbering, back, edge, clasp, defect, label or reference. Do not ask for unnecessary personal documents. Evidence should be proportionate to the risk and respect data minimisation.

If a piece of information is missing, mark it as unknown. If there are photos but they do not allow you to tell whether a mark is authentic, the result is inconclusive. This distinction prevents the system from automatically interpreting a lack of certainty as fraud.

C

Profile and ratings: context, not authenticity

A good reputation reduces some doubts, but it does not prove every item.

Ratings can provide information about reliability, communication or past experience. The age of the account or its visible activity history may also be relevant. None of these elements authenticates a specific piece or replaces reviewing the listing.

The reverse is also important: a new account does not prove fraud. It may justify more checks, a payment method with applicable protection or lower financial exposure, but an absence of reputation is a lack of history, not direct evidence of misconduct.

Barguvo should not turn profiles into an absolute traffic light. The most useful output is to explain which signal exists and which question would resolve it.

Barguvo can organise signals and open questions without accusing or blocking any user.

The decision is explained; Barguvo does not carry out actions within todocoleccion.

D

Provenance and authenticity: keep the degree of certainty

A story can add context without becoming a certificate.

For provenance, use explicit labels: declared by the seller, observable on the piece, provided via a document/photo, confirmed through an appropriate check, or unknown.

An invoice, certificate or label also needs context: who issued it, which item it corresponds to and whether its identifiers match. It is not enough for a piece of paper to appear in a photograph. For high-risk categories, refer to specific checks or to a qualified professional when necessary.

A visual match with another photo on the internet does not automatically prove theft or forgery either. It may be a reused image, a public reference or a real problem; first check what the listing claims and whether the images are meant to represent the specific item.

E

Unusual price: a signal to investigate, not a verdict

Comparable sold items help put into context how far a lot departs from the market.

Use Orientaprecios and other appropriate sources to build a range of comparable sold items. If the lot is well below the range, ask what explains the difference: condition, missing parts, a different edition, urgency or misidentification. Do not jump straight to “scam”.

A high price does not prove quality or authenticity either. Asking prices can be aspirational and a seller can make mistakes. Distinguish ASKING from SOLD and, when Barguvo calculates an estimate, label it as its own estimate with its confidence level.

Rare pieces produce few comparables and therefore greater uncertainty. The absence of recent sales does not automatically mean the item is very valuable; it may simply mean there is not enough evidence.

F

Messages and agreements: keep what changes the transaction

You do not need to save everything; you do need to save what explains price, condition, payment or shipping.

Keeping material terms within the platform’s messaging makes it easier to reconstruct the transaction: which defect was confirmed, which lot was combined, which shipping was agreed or which change was accepted. Quickly moving the conversation to external channels can reduce traceability.

Urgency deserves context. “Pay now through this external link”, “do not use the agreed method” or “send money to a different third party” are material changes that should halt the transaction until they are verified. A quick reply or commercial insistence, on its own, does not prove fraud.

Never paste into Barguvo passwords, full bank details, identity documents or personal information that is not necessary to assess the decision.

G

Pago tc: protection with a defined scope

It is optional and does not turn every purchase into a transaction protected in the same way.

The current terms describe Pago tc as an optional service for buyers and sellers. Payment is processed through Mangopay and the amount is held within the flow until the release conditions are met. For buyers there is a Pago tc Guarantee of 5% of the total, including handling and shipping.

Protection depends on using the service and meeting its conditions and deadlines. If a transaction does not use Pago tc, the same dispute tree should not be shown as if the platform intervened in the same way. Todocoleccion explains that outside the service its general role is that of an intermediary between users.

Before paying, confirm that the flow corresponds to the specific order and to the platform. Do not let a supposed “todocoleccion protection” sent by a third party be used as an excuse to enter credentials or card details on an unverified page.

H

Packaging, tracking and proof of delivery

Safety does not end with payment.

For fragile or high-value items, request or agree on a method with suitable tracking and document the condition of the lot before and after when reasonable. With Pago tc, the current terms make the shipping method and the associated deadlines relevant.

If the parcel arrives damaged, keep photographs of the packaging and the item at the moment of receipt. Do not throw away the box straight away if it could explain transport damage. The returns guide holds the specific deadlines for opening a dispute.

An unboxing video can provide context, but it is not universal proof and does not remove the need for other documentation. The evidence should address the fact in dispute: damage, contents, serial number, packaging or delivery.

I

When the problem has already happened, change your goal

You stop preventing and move on to preserving deadlines, evidence and avenues for claims.

If the order does not arrive, arrives damaged or does not match, do not drag out an informal negotiation indefinitely if there is a platform window. Identify whether Pago tc was used, which type of incident applies and which date starts the deadline.

The returns/claims guide owns the 48 hours, 10 days and other revalidated deadlines. SAFETY should only direct the user there, not duplicate the whole procedure and risk future contradictions.

If the seller is a professional, additional statutory consumer rights may exist. If they are a private individual, do not automatically copy the same rights. The seller’s status must be verified, and in-depth legal advice requires an appropriate legal source.

J

Checklist before paying

Four concrete questions are usually more useful than an opaque score.

Is the identity of the lot sufficiently clear? Are the condition and defects documented? Does the price have context from comparable sold items? Do the payment and shipping methods match what was agreed and the official flow? If any answer is no, resolve that uncertainty before increasing your exposure.

If the result is “inconclusive”, explain why: for example, “the photos do not allow the mark on the back to be checked”. If it is “unknown”, ask for the specific information. A system that only shows red/green would lose precisely the information that makes it possible to act.

This HTML was reviewed on 25/08/2026, uses noindex, nofollow and does not replace the platform’s controls or a professional assessment when the item requires one.

For higher-value transactions, it can be useful to do a second read focused solely on contradictions: comparing the description, photographs, the seller’s answers, price, shipping terms and any document provided. The absence of contradictions does not prove authenticity, but a material contradiction does identify a specific question that must be resolved before paying. For example, if the year in the title does not match the visible mark, or if the lot is described as complete but pieces are missing from the photograph, the right action is to clarify that point, not to offset it with a high profile rating. This approach keeps safety tied to verifiable facts and avoids both blind trust and automatic suspicion.

FAQ

Is a seller with lots of ratings safe?

Ratings are context about past experiences; they do not authenticate the specific lot or remove all risk.

Does a very low price prove a scam?

No. It is a signal to investigate identity, condition and terms. It may have other explanations.

Does Pago tc protect any purchase?

No. It is an optional service with its own conditions and deadlines.

Should I ask the seller for their DNI?

Not as a general rule. Minimise personal data and ask only for evidence relevant to the risk.

Does a repeated photo prove the listing is fake?

Not on its own. It is a signal that requires context and checking.

What do I do if the item has already arrived in poor condition?

Go to the returns/claims guide and check the applicable deadlines immediately.
